Snapchat On-Demand Geofilters are an excellent way to consistently have top of mind awareness for your clients. According to Gary Vayernchuck, a social media industry leader says, ” compared to other mediums, snapchat geofilter is a branded impression on steroids.
What are they?
On-demand geofilters, anyone with a bit of design savvy can pay Snapchat to create and distribute their own custom geofilters in a specific area for an specific time.
The minimum size for these geofilters is 5,000 square feet (enough to cover an office building) and the minimum amount of time the geofilter can exist is 30 minutes. On the other side of the spectrum, users can spread their on-demand geofilters as far as 5,000,000 square feet.
The turnaround time for review is about a day, and pricing starts at $5.
How do I create one?
It’s a 3-step process. You first design (Snapchat has provided free templates for you to start), map —where you pick a time and location for your filter and then you purchase it.
How can brides or people know that I have one?
They don’t, it’s more of an Easter Egg. Most savvy snapchat users are already familiar with geolocation filters—those are filters that use your current location. When they snap photos at your event, your branding and logo will appear when a person swipes left or right.
How much does it cost?
That depends on a few factors, how long you want the filter to run and how large the geographic area. My filters range from $5, the minimum amount to $10 if have a larger area to cover. I have personally played around with them and I’ve seen them cost upwards of $300 and more.
How far in advance should I create the filter?
Snapchat says they review it within 24 hours (even on weekends) and I usually have mine completed and submitted on a Thursday before a weekend wedding.
How long does the filter last?
It can last as long as you want to pay for it, remember the longer you have it active the more it will cost.
Let’s take a look at my filters
I was recently filming a wedding in Downtown Los Angeles at the Majestic Downtown, in very busy area. I created these filters for the reception.
I spent $8.36 to target the area for up to 16 hours.
By the time the filter was gone, it had seen 91 uses and gotten over two thousands of views. But remember: the views continue after the filter expires, because the views are coming not only from people at the event but also friends and family watching snaps that use the filter. The attendees were delivering the impression on my behalf by using my filter. Now these filters aren’t intrusive like banner ads or even in a newsfeed like Facebook Ads, they are actually people who see your face and brand and other people use it to share bridal photos.
